Whilst the camp was in no real danger as the rest of the country was totally preoccupied with its own destruction, Iseult still felt it prudent to post guards on the gates and so it was that one morning a refugee arrived with tales of Terminal Transit.

Over a bowl of soup the refugee told Iseult and Gilly about the horrors taking place in the city centre.

‘All day without a break whole families are forced to attack monuments, buildings and landmarks with little more than their bare hands and are not allowed to stop until they fall fainting from the effort.’

‘Then what?’ asked Gilly.

‘Then nothing,’ replied the refugee. ‘That’s it forever now.’
