Bouts of energy and action need to be nurtured by moments of intense thought and so as she began to put back on her dried clothes Inteachán deliberated. Every in must always have an out and Inteachán figured that by searching the shore of the lake she would likely find a tributary of some kind.

‘Mac would call it ebb and flow,’ she said out loud without thinking

The sound of her voice was troubling in this space and Inteachán felt uneasy and wished that she hadn’t spoken. She stood up, got dressed and got ready to go.

‘I’m off then,‘ she said out loud again, this time as if to prove to herself how unafraid she was. But Inteachán felt nervous all the same.
